Stone's Shoe Store 1922
When Henry Stone enrolled in school his Norwegian surname of Istad was changed to Stone in order to help him fit in more easily with his adopted Midwestern American community.
Around Woodstock the Stone family surname had been prominent and well respected from the time of the earlier pioneers.
After Henry Stone completed his education, he worked hard and was eventually able to open his shoe store on the Woodstock Square.
Henry Stone (pictured) is wearing the medal he was awarded for being Secretary and Treasurer of the Old Fellows Lodge for 20-25 years. The medal was allegedly later stolen from his shoe store.
